Our Approach

Our name, Avant, is derived from the term avant-garde. In the world of art, music, and literature, it is used to describe those who employ new and unique approaches that challenge traditional and established norms. In the world of travel, it describes Avant’s innovative approach and our willingness to step outside the box to ensure that our clients receive one-of-a-kind travel experiences and memories that will last a lifetime. We combine a team approach with unparalleled customer service, resulting in a formula that truly sets us apart from the competition.

Our History

Established in 1987 by four determined women, we have expanded our team to include a full house of in-office travel advisors, several independent out-of-office travel advisors, and three hands-on working owners. We operate out of our headquarters based in downtown Lexington, Kentucky.  From 1992 to 2019, we also operated a branch office located inside a large, upscale book store and café called Joseph-Beth Booksellers, which had been an iconic landmark and popular Lexington hangout among locals for many years. This strategic maneuver, believed to be a first in the travel industry, bolstered our strong presence in the community and heightened our exposure to international and leisure travelers.  Novel and creative approaches such as this helped Avant Travel earn several awards early in our tenure, including Lexington’s Small Business of The Year in 1993.  Our award-winning ways have continued over the years. In 2018, we were named Commerce Lexington’s Salute to Small Business Legacy Award winner, an award which recognizes longevity (over 25 years), exceptional staying power, company growth, and the ability to adjust to a changing economic climate.

 

 

In late 2019, after serving the Lexington community for 27 years, we decided to close our Joseph-Beth branch office and bring the Avant team together under one roof in our newly renovated and expanded downtown location. So, from our humble beginnings as a small and nimble yet full-service travel agency, focusing primarily on the needs of our corporate and business travelers, we have evolved over the years, adapting to sweeping changes in the travel industry along the way. We are now recognized not only as experts in business travel, but also as a leading resource for the planning of high-end luxury and adventure travel.
