Annecy from Above – Video

As the coronavirus pandemic drags on and travel fears and restrictions stubbornly persist, we’re going to keep right on dreamin’ of travel and looking forward to the day we can get back to normal and venture off somewhere really cool! In this month’s edition of our Travel Video share, we take you to another distant destination that is a little off the beaten track — Annecy, France!

Popular opinion may dub Paris as the most beautiful, most romantic city in all of France, but this jewel of the Haute-Savoie tucked away in southeastern France gives Paris a run for its money! Annecy is situated at the tip of the cleanest lake in Europe (of the same name) and is known for its picturesque old town, with cobbled streets, winding canals crisscrossed by bridges and lined with bright flowers, and pastel-colored houses, earning this city the nickname “Venice of the Alps.”  The aquamarine water of Lake Annecy is gloriously bordered by dramatic mountains on all sides.

Annecy hosts various local markets throughout the week selling the region’s celebrated cheeses, charcuterie, produce and an array of market wares.  Overlooking the city, the medieval Château d’Annecy, once home to the Counts of Geneva, contains a museum with regional artifacts such as Alpine furniture and religious art, plus a natural history exhibit.

We hope you enjoy this unique aerial view of Annecy, created by local filmmaker, Yannick Cerrutti. He utilizes timelapse and hyperlapse techniques to bring you this extraordinary perspective. The film is entitled Annecy — Drone in Motion.

We hope you are staying safe while you keep those travel dreams alive. We’ll be here when you’re ready for you next travel adventure!
